A world tour in the sunshine - the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar

The catamaran "MS Turanor PlanetSolar" , the biggest solar paneled boat in the world, has arrived two days ago in the harbor of Port Adriano -- after a 19-month world tour.

His one has been the first journey around the world using solar energy. It has departed on 27 September 2010 from Monaco and followed a road close to the Equator. After crossing the Atlantic ocean, the Panama Canal, the Pacific ocean, the Indian ocean, the Suez Canal, and the Mediterranean, the ship has reached Monaco again on the 4th of May 2012, earning therefore a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

To successfully achieve the journey, the crew has only been counting on the energy provided by the sun and has constantly optimized the ship’s route and speed in accordance with the sunshine durationand the weather forecast in the mid-term.

The 537 m2 of photovoltaic panel power 6 blocks of lithium-ion battery, a technology that offers maximal power and energy density, thus enabling a navigation time that is unmatched to date! Indeed, each new sunrise provides the catamaran with the light needed to continue its journey…

The "MS Tûranor PlanetSolar" will be anchored in the harbor of Port Adriano until the 7th of July.
