Pantone announced The Official Color of the Year for 2014
Every December, the fashion and design worlds eagerly await the announcement of Pantone’s color of the year. Today, the company revealed that their official selection for 2014 is “Radiant Orchid,” a shade of fuchsia blended with purple and pink undertones.
Pantone, a 50-year-old company that’s regarded as the authority on color in paint, fabric, and manufacturing, called Radiant Orchid “a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple” that’s meant to “intrigue the eye and spark the imagination” and “inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love, and health.”Pantone's pick will, in theory, have a strong presence in fashion, beauty, home design and consumer products.
In decorating, the color pairs well with other bright shades like turquoise, teal and light yellows, as well as neutrals like gray, beige and taupe, the company said.
The selection follows a revival theme started last year when Pantone selected Emerald as the Color of the Year for 2013, following the energizing Tango Tangerine for 2012.
