Avenc de Son Pou closed by the Spanish government to stop its deterioration.

The cave is illuminated by natural light entering it through a hole located on the upper part.

The Spanish government and the land owner on which Avenc de Son Pou is located have come to a mutual agreement to close the spectacular cave for conservation reasons. As the cavity forms part of the Natura 2000 network and is protected by European regulations, the law protects the closure. In fact, the regulations dictate that these places can only be visited with prior authorisation from the Conselleria de Medi Ambient.

It is one of the most spectacular and emblematic caves in Mallorca and is among the most visited. Located at approximately 20 minutes drive from the capital Palma, between Santa Maria and Orient, it takes one about a 2 hours trek to reach it, hiking through a dried river bed and up a mountain andthrough a forest.

Signature Group’s own project management team has been fortunate enough to visit the cave before its closure and have managed to take a few photographs, one of which is featured here. 

Mallorca has many unspoilt places that can be found in quiet locations, far from the busy tourist areas, that are waiting to be discovered, just make sure you visit it them sooner rather than later.
