A new boutique hotel has opened in the heart of Palma

Hotel Cort is located on Plaça Cort, one of the most known squares of Palma de Mallorca's historical center. Home to Palma’s Baroque-era town hall and a centuries-old olive tree that acts as a natural meeting place for locals, Plaça Cort is the ideal base for weekending visitors who want to uncover the real Mallorca, far from the usual ‘fun in the sun’ beach resorts.

Like an island within an island, the recently opened Hotel Cort, sits  at the epicenter of this historic and increasingly cosmopolitan city.Guests will find quiet inspiration in the 14 suites and 2 rooms designed by self-styled ‘urban archeologist’ Lázaro Rosa-Violán, whose framed maps and cool splashes of ultramarine color hint at the hotel’s proximity to the sea (the nearest beach is just a fifteen-minute walk away).

The former bank that houses Hotel Cort is now more than a hundred years old. That’s relatively young compared with Palma’s seventeenth-century town hall, which sits on the other side of the square, but the hotel does share some of the same features, such as the delicate stone moldings that edge the windows and the elegant sandstone balconies.

Palma has much more to offer than Mallorca’s typical beach resorts, and can compete with much larger European city-break destinations with its abundant cultural offerings. It’s a cosmopolitan city, influenced by the Romans and the Moors, and a place where islanders live side by side with expats from all over Europe. For Hotel Cort’s interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the challenge was to create a place that would reflect this happy mix of cultures.
