The architecture of Palma - Palau de Congressos
The Palma Town Council and the Government of the Balearic Islands have been working together to launch an ambitious project: the construction of a convention centre in Palma de Mallorca.
The new convention centre will place Palma on the map of the world's leading business destinations, as its facilities have been conceived to meet MICE travellers' needs.
Furthermore, since the project is being developed by architect Francisco Mangado, it is bound to be one of the iconic buildings in the Mediterranean region, an architectural reference and a city highlight not to be missed by out-of-towners
Francisco Mangado, an internationally renowned architect, is an easily accessible and modest artist who readily accepts the validity of the views and ideas of others. An architect who is totally committed to his work, who rejects trends and defends architecture with a capital 'A' and who is immersed in space and time. A Northerner who has a love affair with the Mediterranean light and Majorca and who is delighted that the Convention Centre project gives him the perfect excuse to spend more time on the island.
He was born in Navarre in 1957, studied at the School of Architecture in Navarre where he graduated in 1981, receiving the award for best end of course project and also receiving second prize in the National End of Architectural Studies Awards.
He currently works from his studio in Pamplona and since he started out on his professional career he has combined teaching with his work as an architect. Since 1982 he has been a Projects teacher at the School of Architecture at the University of Navarre . He is also a lecturer at the School of Architecture in the University of Texas , the Graduate School of Design at the University of Harvard , the School of Architecture of the International University of Catalonia and for the Masters in Architectural Design at the University of Navarre.
